Are internet users in India changing how they approach dating?
Possibly.
We used Google Search Term Trends to explore marriage and dating in India. Google Trends is a handy tool that shows you what people are searching for over time. It can offer clues as to how searches change, although it by no means offers definitive data. It just shows what terms people are searching for.
For instance, enter the terms “matrimony sites” and “dating apps,” while filtering for India, and you can see a dramatic change in searches since around 2015. Searches for “matrimony sites” have dropped significantly, while searches for “dating apps” have seen a rise.
Our search may raise more questions than answers — are online users thinking about marriage differently? Or has the rise in availability of dating apps worldwide just made them more convenient for users, with no real change in attitudes?
